Lake Okeechobee is producing toxic blue-green algae aka cyanophytes on an increasing frequency with bi-coastal deleterious ecological effects. LOWQIP will reduce the major cause by sequestering phosphate from both water column and top sediment through alum sludge formation of ~ 50,000 Mt TP [110 million lbs.]. Dredge spoil removal options do not remove off-site. Options are: DIW, encased spoil islands, shoreline resource recovery. Result is clear lake water below phosphorus causing cyanophytes, create sediment cover of native freshwater grasses to "cement" the bottom, increase bass fishery, bird and duck habitats and increse recreational and economic value.
